with a desire to transform your avocation into a
business?

Do you want to be
able to successfully market your artistic
product/service?

Are you wondering
where and how to start down the path of
artist-as-entrepreneur?
The Northeast
Entrepreneur Fund introduces a new business learning
program developed especially for artists who reside in
northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.
C.RE.A.T.E. (Community Resources for
Artists-to-Entrepreneurs) is designed to help artists
turn their work into viable, income-producing
businesses. Eligible participants include but are not
limited to visual artists, sculptors, potters,
filmmakers, photographers, musicians and writers.
By participating in C.RE.A.T.E., you’ll:

passion for your art or craft into a sustainable
business
- Learn how other
artists have successfully started and built a
business
- Network with other
artists/business owners
- Understand and apply
fundamental business tools and practices
- Receive ongoing
assistance in business planning and entrepreneurial
development
Entrepreneurial
training designed for artists
The C.RE.A.T.E. program offers a 12-hour
curriculum available in two sessions in Spring 2009.
Participants may register for either session.
Session 1: Thursdays, 6-9
p.m. (March 26, April 9, April 23, April 30)
Session 2:
Tuesdays, 6-9 p.m. (May 12, May 26, June 9, June 16)
All classes will be held
at the Duluth Art Institute, 2229 W. Second Street,
Duluth.
Cost for the entire
program is $150. Artists residing in one of five Duluth
neighborhoods* which are part of the Growing
Neighborhood Businesses initiative may participate for
only $50.
As a C.RE.A.T.E. participant, you will be
introduced to business fundamentals such as finances,
operations, marketing, legal considerations, and more.
Information, ideas and insights provided in each session
will focus on the needs of artists who aspire to turn
their passion for art into a sustainable business. You
will also learn how to develop a sound business plan.
Successful artist-entrepreneurs will be featured as
instructors and guest speakers. Class content will be
based on the Northeast Entrepreneur Fund’s nationally
recognized Core Four® business training curriculum.
Ongoing entrepreneurial assistance
Following completion of the two sessions, eight
participants in C.RE.A.T.E. will be selected to
receive ongoing technical assistance and business
consulting for a period of up to three years, at no
cost. This group of eight will meet regularly for peer
support, professional coaching and other assistance.
Eligible participants must qualify as low-to-moderate
income and reside in one of the Duluth neighborhoods*
designated as part of the Growing Neighborhood
Businesses initiative.
