Introduction to Business Planning Workshop

Welcome to the Northeast Entrepreneur Fund!

The Northeast Entrepreneur Fund is a private nonprofit organization serving Northeastern Minnesota and Northwestern Wisconsin. We have been helping people develop their own ideas for starting or expanding small businesses in our region since 1989.

Many business owners need access to capital for starting, operating or expanding their business. The Entrepreneur Fund has a loan fund that provides loans to individuals depending upon their business plan, credit, and ability to demonstrate a way to repay the loan. Welcome to the Introduction to Business Planning Workshop

This online workshop will provide you with the basic knowledge of what it takes to start a successful small business. Starting a business can be a daunting process. The Entrepreneur Fund has developed this online workshop to help you understand what it will take to start your business, what you need to know about business planning, how to assess your own skills, and what are some of the legal and tax issues you need to consider.

Who should take this online workshop? Anyone thinking about starting or expanding their own business. Anyone who wants to understand what it might take to run their own business. You may have a hobby or a skill that people are always encouraging you to use in your own business. You may be creative, hardworking, and independent. If you have always dreamed of owning your own business this class is for you! Business ownership is not for everyone and this class will provide you with the information and the tools to decide.

What can you expect in the workshop? Plan to take about an hour to complete the class. There are four sections to the class and each section can be completed in about 15 to 20 minutes. It is a self-paced class so that you can stop and start the class at your leisure. Visit us as often as you like until you have the information that you need. There are worksheets in each section that you can download for use in your business.

What is covered in the workshop? The workshop has four sections:

  • Know Thyself – Are you an entrepreneur and do you have what it takes to start and operate a small business? What are your strengths and weaknesses? What skills will you need to be successful?

  • Business Planning – What is a business plan? Why should you create one? Find out how to write your own plan.

  • Business Legal and Tax Issues – What are the legal structures for organizing a business? What tax issues do I need to know? Sort out all of the legal and tax issues before you start the business.

  • Checklist for Starting Your Business – Where do I start? What do I need to do to open my own business? We provide a 10-step checklist for starting a business.

The Entrepreneur Fund has helped hundreds of business owners in Northeastern Minnesota and Northwestern Wisconsin. Many of the small businesses in your community may have been helped through one of our programs. Our training, consulting, and lending have made the difference in many lives.
